Remember this one??? I hope you do because if you don't then that means you missed out on some of the best comic book sci-fi market tie-in related books ever from Marvel comics! Written with snappy, unencumbered dialog by the Great Bill Mantlo and drawn by none other than the Outstanding Sal Buscema, Rom Spaceknight had me running to the comic book shops every month to see how he dealt with those nasty other-dimensional rats, the Dire Wraiths!!!
I can still remember that new comic book smell that I got from buying Rom as soon as it hit the book stands! They don't make 'em like this anymore. Books that feel serious and lighthearted at the same time. From day 1 --and even page 1 you could tell that Sal Buscema was on the verge of creating some of the best work in his life. Take a look at the image here showing Rom emerging from a burning crater. That was in issue #1. There was no way you were going to not buy issue # 2 after seeing that. And this was pre-Alex Ross, people. No photo-assisted artwork. Just geniuses with the pencil and imagination!
Another one of my favorite scenes was when a rival spaceknight (Firefall, Rom 4) tried to challenge Rom. Rom kicked him another ass and stood over that fool while pronouncing, "There is none greater than Rom Spaceknight!" And brother you believed him!
Then after Sal left uber pro Michael Golden took over (famous for another toy related book, The Micronauts).
There was also a cool toy associate with this comic book, as if it couldn't get any better. A Rom movie can still be produced even though his heyday was many years ago: the character is still compelling enough to film! How about it, Marvel/Disney?? I know you're reading this. Give me a Rom movie dammit!

I'm Alan Booker and I created the character known as Zombie Racer (TM) in the year 2000, same year I registered the domain www.zombieracer.com, and then everyone and his mother started turning it into shitty video games and smelly gym shoes on the Internet. So now it's just all over the damn place. Anyone using this trademark without proper authorization subjects themselves to possible legal action. -especially if you make any money off of it.
